about MILKWEED AND CO.:

Milkweed and Co. is a collection of handmade paper and textile goods by Boston-based artist Helen Schroeder. Work is available for sale on Etsy, by custom order, and in several independent retail shops.   

Milkweed got its start as Linden Leaf Designs late in 2008, when I started creating cut paper collages for family members and friends as gifts. I quickly came to love the way that the medium's layers, textures, and patterns could reveal a place's personality. More recently I’ve been exploring textile art and quilting and am so exciting to bring this evolution of my work to Milkweed and Co.

I love being inspired by the neighborhoods, cities, and communities I call home, and much of my work celebrates my beloved cities of Boston and Minneapolis.  I love telling a story with layers of color, fabric, and paper, and it's amazing to be able to have customers who feel the same connections to these special places.

about helen:

My roots are in Minneapolis, but I have called Boston home for over 15 years. I have an interdisciplinary degree in Art For Social Development, a self-designed program synthesizing studio art, human services, and education. I have a masters degree in Early Childhood Education and teach Kindergarten in the great city of Somerville, MA. When I am not making or teaching, I love exploring wild places near and far.

I am passionate about the power of the arts to create change in individuals and communities, and especially in its role in the education of young children. As an artist and educator, I'm so lucky to be able to live this passion out every day in all aspects of my life.
